Syria, Cosmopolitanism, vodka at uni, and Search Factory

So I am sure that by now everyone has heard of the catastrophe that is Syria. I know it's not the most happiest thing to blog about, but it's such an important issue right now. A lot of people don't understand what the problem is, and why the war was started in the first place. But the one thing we are absolutely sure about is that it is genocide. The current Alawite militiasare  carrying out an ethnic cleansing campaign, killing everyone and everything. Including children.  Syria's turmoil began with protests against President Basha al-Assad's tyrannical regime in March 2011. It crossed an important threshold a year and a half later, when the international Red Cross formally declared it a civil war.  The casualty tallies continue to climb higher as fighting rages across the country. Hundreds of thousands are fleeing Syria, seeking sanctuary in refugee camps in neighbouring countries. The death toll now exceeds 100,000 +.

One of the main problems right now is the question of intervention. Should we or shouldn't we? The answer is yes. Every single democratic country should condemn the Syrian government for its crimes against humanity. Now, this wouldn't be an invasion, it would be an intervention - although I don't think a lot of people would see it that way. Perhaps we could just call it an occupation - like during WW2. Whatever we call it, and whatever we decide to do, something has to be done, and fast.

In other, happier, news, I have finished my Human Rights course at uni. After class, a few of us, including our tutor/lecturer, all went down to the uni bar to have a drink. Luckily I had two hours until my next class, so my tutor/lecturer, got me some straight vodka. The funny thing was, I actually wanted a vodka and orange, however for some reason I just asked for vodka, so he came back with just that - a shot of vodka. And man, did that shot mellow me out for the rest of the afternoon! It was really great, actually, considering I had two other classes that afternoon. Man, Accounting was a breeze! I'm really sad about finishing my course. It was one of the most eye-opening courses I have ever done at uni. It's not a course for the faint-hearted, as we watched videos on genocide, but it's still so amazing. I learned so much about the world, and I understand why my tutor/lecturer is an anarchist. He believes in Cosmopolitanism - a world community, and it's easy to see why.

I was also offered a job at  Search Factory a SEO and SEM company. The job is based in Fortitude Valley, which only takes about 30- 40 minutes to get to via train. I submitted my resume and some samples of my work and the content development manager seemed to like it! I would be writing content for companies such as Flight Centre, Student Flights, Cruise About, Fox Symes, Vistaprint, Coral Homes, Travel Associates, 99, Escape Travel, and Merida bikes. I'm very excited to begin, and I've been checking my email as soon as I wake up every day :D

The photo of the day is....da da da daaaa....
