I didn't vote for him, and I never will, but majority rules in this case, and there's nothing we can do now but coup, or plot to overthrow the government. Joking. But maybe not. Many people have asked me, "why do you hate Tony Abbott so much?" and I respond by asking, "why don't you." For those who are pro-Abbott, or on the fence, or simply curious as to why one person would hate someone they've never met so much, then let me fill you in through a few quotes our new Prime Minister actually said.
Yes, Tony Abbott really said that... #1:
On immigration:
1) ‘Jesus knew that there was a place for everything and it’s not necessarily everyone’s place to come to Australia.’
2) ‘These people aren’t so much seeking asylum, they’re seeking permanent residency. If they were happy with temporary protection visas, then they might be able to argue better that they were asylum seekers’
Yes, Tony Abbott really said that... #2:
On rights at work:
1)‘If we’re honest, most of us would accept that a bad boss is a little bit like a bad father or a bad husband … you find that he tends to do more good than harm. He might be a bad boss but at least he’s employing someone while he is in fact a boss.’
Yes, Tony Abbott really said that...#3
On women:
1) ‘The problem with the Australian practice of abortion is that an objectively grave matter has been reduced to a question of the mother’s convenience.’
2)‘I think it would be folly to expect that women will ever dominate or even approach equal representation in a large number of areas simply because their aptitudes, abilities and interests are different for physiological reasons’
3) ‘I think there does need to be give and take on both sides, and this idea that sex is kind of a woman’s right to absolutely withhold, just as the idea that sex is a man’s right to demand I think they are both they both need to be moderated, so to speak’
4) ‘What the housewives of Australia need to understand as they do the ironing is that if they get it done commercially it’s going to go up in price and their own power bills when they switch the iron on are going to go up, every year…’
Yes, Tony Abbott really said that...#4
On the crisis in Syria:
1)‘It’s not goodies versus baddies, it’s baddies versus baddies’
So I think you get the picture....
Let me just remind everyone that THIS MAN IS OUR PRIME MINISTER. Yep. This idiot rules our country. Sure, Kevin Rudd is a bit of a prick, but at least he thinks women are people and he cares about the indigenous people of our country. This is the reason I want to coup. And if I get enough people on my side I will seriously consider doing it.
Perhaps I shouldn't dwell on such angering matters....let's move on to Ai Weiwei.
For those who are unaware of this amazing individual, Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist, active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film, and social, political and cultural critic. In 2011 he was arrested and detained for falsified tax evasion. Ai's supporters widely viewed his detention as retaliation for his vocal criticism of the government, and not because of his so-called tax evasion and sex crimes (these were all made up by the government to detain). In June 2012, Ai's bail was lifted. Although he is allowed to leave Beijing, the police informed him that he is still prohibited from travelling to other countries because he is 'suspected of other crimes', including pornography, bigamy and illicit exchange of foreign currency. What a load of shit. Ai Weiwei is just another example of a silenced activist. I think it is extremely important for any political activist to watch the documentary, 'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry'. It is an amazing story of how one man can care so much about his country and government, and the lengths that government will go to to silence him. It's so awesome.
I think it's so important to stand up for your rights. Ai Weiwei is so inspiring, because he gives me hope that I will one day have the courage to stand up to my own government. Without rights, we are a stateless country. We may as well be barbarians. Or simply coup. If enough people got together we could oust him from his position. We want Coup!
The photo of the day is.....
